Welcome

The Northeast Indiana Corporate Council is a regional group of 45 CEOs whose mission is “to promote the common business interests, growth, opportunity and general economic welfare for businesses in northeast Indiana.”

The Corporate Council, also known as the NICC, works collaboratively and in an apolitical manner with educational institutions, governmental bodies / agencies, foundations and institutions linked to its mission

The Corporate Council is driven by the simple truth that our region will only prosper if all of our institutions work together for the greater good and that no community in our region will enjoy long-term success alone.

The NICC furthers its mission by:

·      Encouraging economic development in northeast Indiana by identifying current and future business needs and establishing strategic plans to address them. We promote innovation, entrepreneurship and small business development with a focus on industrial, technological, professional and service clusters important to the long-term economic growth of the region.

·      Creating a forum for identifying and discussing significant issues for businesses with a goal of improving the business environment in northeast Indiana

·      Establishing links with appropriate governmental and quasi-governmental agencies and community organizations to exchange information and develop strategies to enhance the quality of life and promote economic growth in northeast Indiana

By policy, the NICC does not directly engage in the operations of its collaborative partners.

During the past few years, the Corporate Council successfully led efforts or collaborated to:

·      Provide the leadership and initial funding required to create the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership to market the 11-county region and team with local economic development organizations to bring new jobs and commercial investment to the area.

·      Foster the development of an organization for young people who want to take an active role in improving our region called Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana (YLNI). In less than three years, YLNI already has more than 1,000 members.

·      Restructure the regional workforce through active involvement in the Northeast Indiana Workforce Investment Board’s Strategic Skills Initiative and a variety of programs aimed at refocusing the region’s workforce

·      Provide leadership and funding for the creation of the Northeast Indiana Graduate Retention Program in partnership with the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce

·      Develop the Office of Joint Engagement at Indiana University-Purdue University-Fort Wayne in partnership with Purdue, Indiana, IPFW and regional interests

Linking Workforce Skills with Education

The availability of a skilled workforce rates number one as the most important criteria for new business expansion, closely followed by the quality of educational institutions. Northeast Indiana’s economic future is inextricably linked to the quality of educational excellence.

The Corporate Council's vision of achieving regional economic prosperity is built upon the foundation of a superior workforce created by educational excellence.

The NICC finds inspiration in the work of educators and administrators at model schools across the nation who are creating bold new learning environments and redefining education.
