In 1980,
leaders of many large companies in Fort Wayne formed a group
called the “Fort Wayne Corporate Council” to discuss how to
positively contribute to the growth of the community.
More
than 27 years later, the Northeast Indiana Corporate Council is
carrying on that tradition on a broader, regional scale.
The
original Corporate Council functioned as a catalyst for
community action, providing unified support from the corporate
community to help local groups. As business clusters,
particularly banks, hospitals and retail became regionalized
over the years, it became apparent the Corporate Council needed
to look beyond Fort Wayne’s boundaries and its local issues.
The NICC was reorganized as a
regional organization in 2003 and hired its first full-time
president. Funded entirely by membership dues, recruitment
efforts began to involve CEOs of regional organizations in the
surrounding counties for which Fort Wayne serves as the economic
hub.
Today’s
Corporate Council is a regional group of 45 CEOs whose mission
is to promote the common business interests, growth, opportunity
and general economic welfare for businesses in northeastern
Indiana. Thirty of its members have a regional presence that,
for some, reaches to Ohio and Michigan. Twenty-two member
companies are headquartered in the region.
